Bioresources
Collection & Research Centre
Based in Taiwan, BCRC provides strain
information, cell information, a patent depository and other
services.
BIOTEC
Culture Collection
Established within the national centre (BIOTEC) to collect
and preserve microorganisms of specific types isolated from
the natural environment in Thailand for further study and
application.
Microbial strain data are recorded in a computer and online
databases are gradually becoming available. BCC also provides
services on safe deposit and dissemination of cultures for
research and education and for the deposit of patent strains
in Thailand.
China
General Microbiological Culture
Collection Centre
Established in 1979, the CGMCC is dedicated to the acquisition,
characterization and identification, preservation and distribution
of bacteria, yeasts and fungi. Currently it has more than
3600 bacteria, 6000 fungi, 2000 yeasts and 400 patent cultures.
Only biological cultures of risk group 1 and 2 are accepted.
Eukaryotes
in Extreme Environments
Eukaryotic microbial life may be found actively growing
in almost any extreme condition where there is a sufficient
energy source to sustain it, with the exception of high
temperature (>700C). This site from the Natural History
Museum
covers anaerobes, thermophiles, psychrophiles, acidophiles,
alkalophiles, halophiles, barophiles, xerophiles, other
extreme environments and
comprehensive references.
Microbiology
Culture Collection Centre
This collection at the University of New South Wales was
established in 1969, and provides cultures for education
and industry. An abbreviated catalogue of algae, bacteria,
fungi and yeast is available for perusal and other cultures
may be obtainable upon request.
Nanoworld
Image Gallery
Gallery of images from University of Queensland illustrating
blood, cellular ultrastructure, digestion, hair, insects,
microbes and diseases, parasites, plankton, pollen and spores,
plants, yeast, and moulds.
The
Microbiology Network
The Microbiology Network serves as a communication resource
for the microbiologist. The objective of this service is
to encourage communication within the microbiology and biotechnology
community. This is accomplished by active promotion of microbiology
related user's groups on the WWW, mail lists, forums, and
file libraries. Strong area of interest in regulatory microbiology
in the pharmaceutical, food, and personal care industries.
World
Data Centre for Microorganisms
Based in Japan, the WFCC-MIRCEN World Data Centre for Microorganisms
(WDCM) provides a comprehensive directory of culture collections,
databases on microbes and cell lines and a gateway to biodiversity,
molecular biology and genome projects.
WWW
Virtual Library: Microbiology & Virology
Devoted to the science, practice, and application of microbiology
and virology. Subjects covered include culture collections,
databases, educational sites, journals, government and regulatory
sites, images, medical microbiology, university departments,
virology, protista, and references to newsgroups, Email
lists, and other resources for the microbiologist. |
