ABIF-Flora
The Australian Biodiversity Information Facility provides
online delivery of taxonomic and biological information
on species known to occur in Australia. It provides an array
of data including checklists and censuses of various groups
of plants, searchable electronically.
ABIF-Flora currently delivers information from the Flora
of Australia, Australian Marine Algal Name Index and Checklist
of Australian Lichens. This online information is available
free of charge.
Australian
National Plant Photographic Index
A large collection of photographic slides of the activities
of the Australian National Botanic Gardens and Australian
botany. The bulk of the collection consists of identified
Australian plant species. It is possible to browse and search
images of flowers and leaves from over 80 plant families,
from Acanthaceae to Winteraceae.
Australian
Plant Images
Set of pictures from the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research
of Australian native plants taken by digital camera, flat-bed
scanner or Photo CD.
Index
Herbatorium
From the New York Botanical Garden, a detailed directory
of 3240 public herbaria of the world and the 9869 staff
members associated with them.
International
Organisation for Plant Information
Based at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney, IOPI manages
a series of cooperative international projects that aim
to create and link databases of plant taxonomic information.
IOPI is a Commission of the International Union of Biological
Sciences (IUBS) and a member of Species 2000.
Madagascar
Plant Diversity
Details of several Kew Royal Botanic Gardens projects and
publications about Madagascar, including biodiversity of
the coffee family (Rubiaceae), legumes, orchids, phylogeny,
tree species, and palms. Madagascar is one of the ecologically
richest countries in the world. Its flora is diverse, peculiar,
and unique. Of the estimated 12,000 species, over 80% are
only found in Madagascar.
Natural
History Museum
The British Museum's mission is to maintain and develop
its collections and use them to promote the discovery, understanding,
responsible use and enjoyment of the natural world. Its
collections of over 68,000,000 specimens, gathered from
across the globe, represent more than 300 years of scientific
collecting and study and are at the heart of the institution's
scientific research, information services, education and
exhibition activities. Online displays include Life Galleries,
Earth Galleries, Wildlife Garden and VR trilobites.
Plants
National Database
PLANTS Database provides standardized information about
the vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts and lichens
of the US and its territories. It includes names, plant
symbols, checklists, distributional data, species abstracts,
characteristics, images, plant links, references, crop information
and automated tools. PLANTS reduces costs by minimizing
duplication and making information exchange possible across
agencies and disciplines.
Tree
of Life
A distributed Internet project containing information about
phylogeny and biodiversity. The project is designed to contain
information about the phylogenetic relationships and characteristics
of organisms, to illustrate the diversity and unity of living
organisms, and to link biological information available
on the Internet in the form of a phylogenetic navigator.
The project aims to provide a map to biological information
to be used by researchers, teachers and students.
